The Montefiore Institute mainly hosts teaching and research activities linked to the School of Engineering.

Building history

*The Institute has been built in three phases: the first dates back to 1975, followed by the complete transfer of the institute in 1987, and ending in 1997 with the Institut de Mathématiques, opposite.
It reflects a trend towards humanizing architecture that began to assert itself at Sart-Tilman in the 1970s, and reveals a high degree of coherence. It comprises several human-sized volumes arranged around a central relaxation area.

Various secondary wings adjoin these main volumes. Space and circulation are rigorously organized according to function. Concrete, still abundantly present, blends with black slate on the exterior and wood on the interior for added warmth.

** The same architect (Jean Maquet) will design the Institute of Mathematics to which the Montefiore Institute will be linked by a footbridge.

The extension to the Service Général d'Informatique, designed by Jean Englebert (1989), was built using a series of "site cabins", a prefabrication process that cut costs and accelerated construction.

In September 2024, the former R3 amphitheatre was renamed "Mania Pavella" in honour of , the first woman to join the academic body of the Faculty of Applied Sciences in 1978.
