The Mathematics Institute was designed by architect Jean Maquet (1997), who had already built the Institut Montéfiore , which is located nearby and with which he sought to achieve harmony of form and integration into the environment.
Built during the second phase of construction of the Sart Tilman university estate, the architecture of the Institut of Mathematics like that of the Institut d'Électricité Montefiore, shows a tendency towards humanization. There is a marked presence of wood, which contributes to a warm, friendly atmosphere. A certain post-modern tendency marks this second building period*.
