Submarine and Oceanographic Research Station (Stareso)
Pointe de la Revellata BP 33
F-20260 CALVI - Haute CORSE
Stareso is a scientific base dedicated to marine research in the Mediterranean, located at the tip of Cap de la Revellata in Calvi (Corsica, France). In 1972, Rector Marcel Dubuisson, a keen marine scientist, wanted to provide the University of Liège with a research station where scientists and students could work "with their feet in the water". The choice of site was guided by the exceptional purity of Corsican waters. Underwater flora and fauna are abundant and diverse, and pollution is non-existent. Built of granite stone, Stareso is one of architect Claude Strebelle's finest creations.

Since 1988, a partnership agreement has been in place between the University of Liège, owner of the station, and Gérard Bonifacio, President of STARESO S.A.S. Today, STARESO is a scientific base whose original structure enables it to carry out three types of activities:
- research & development activities, carried out by the University of Liège and its international partners,
- consultancy work carried out by STARESO S.A.S. in response to requests from Corsican local authorities,
- joint ULiège - STARESO S.A.S. projects, benefiting from the know-how and scientific and technical skills of both partners.
A liaison committee has been set up to ensure optimum cooperation between ULg and STARESO S.A.S.
