Wind tunnel

2019-Sart-Tilman-B52-9-c-JMBourdoux00075--112

The University of Liège wind tunnel was built on the Sart-Tilman site at the end of 1999 with funding from the European Union and the Walloon Region.

In the past, ULiège owned the same facility on the Val-Benoît site.
When the Faculty of Applied Sciences moved to the Sart-Tilman campus, it was decided to take advantage of the available space to build a new, larger and more efficient wind tunnel.

The wind tunnel is a closed-loop subsonic facility (Mach <0.15), but can be configured for open-loop operation. It has two different test sections. The wind tunnel was designed and built by TLT Turbo GmbH*.

 Fire Test Hall

ULG-B52-10-300x200jpgThe Fire Test Hall is:

  • in charge of carrying out fire resistance tests since 1979
  • a member of the Structural Engineering Division - ArGEnCo Department - University of Liège (Belgium)
  • an ISO 17025-accredited laboratory
  • a notified laboratory for RPC (Règlement des Produits de Construction)
  • active member of several commissions and associations (member of the EGOLF association)

What is fire resistance?

MH-B52-9-300x200-3

The purpose of determining fire resistance is to assess the behavior of a specimen of a construction element when exposed to defined conditions of heat and pressure.

Test methods provide a means of quantifying an element's ability to withstand exposure to high temperatures by setting criteria according to which performance can be developed, including load-bearing capacity, fire containment (fire-tightness) and heat transmission (thermal insulation)**.
