Faculty of Gembloux Agro Bio-Tech

Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech, at the forefront of biological engineering research, offers an integrated approach to life sciences and technologies. It trains Bioengineers, Landscape Architects, Food Innovation Managers and Agroecologists to take reasoned action on environmental and food challenges. At Gembloux, we understand plants, fauna, microorganisms, their living environments and their interactions. Graduates work all over the world and on all scales, from the molecule in the laboratory to the management of large territories.

They transform and add value to living plant, animal and microbial matter. Their role in society? Participate in the transition to a sustainable society: feed 9 billion human beings, and contribute to the well-being of populations while respecting the natural balance. An open-air laboratory, the campus, located in the heart of the wooded park of the former abbey, is home to numerous sustainable teaching and research initiatives. The conviviality and involvement of students are an integral part of the faculty dynamic. Faculty expertise, application opportunities, project-based learning and targeted pedagogical support are the Faculty's main assets. Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech is recognized for the quality of its teaching, both in Belgium and internationally: ISO 9001 certification, accreditation by the French Commission des titres d'ingénieur (CTI) and the European EUR-ACE label.

To the programmes

The institution's buildings are located in the city center, close to the train station and the majority of student housing. This makes it easy to get around Gembloux without a motorized vehicle.

The campus is well served by bus and train services (the station is a 10-minute walk from the Faculty).

The vast majority of accommodation is very close to the university's buildings, so students and PhD students do not need a motorized vehicle.

Two types of accommodation are available in Gembloux: in university residences (Home des étudiants and Maison Nord-Sud) or with private individuals.

• The Student Residence, located on campus, has 61 single rooms. Rent is adjusted according to income. Rooms are allocated at the beginning of July.
• The Maison Nord-Sud can accommodate 65 people. It consists of single rooms, studios, and apartments. Rent is calculated based on the financing plan and type of accommodation. Accommodation can be allocated for an academic year or for a short stay.
• The faculty's city housing service lists around 900 rooms, studios and apartments rented from private landlords. A list of these accommodations is available on the website of the Faculty.

Library

As a training, teaching and research facility, the Agricultural Sciences Library is one of several ULiège Library sites.

The circulation desk (first floor) is usually open from 8.30 a.m. to 5 p.m. (4.30 p.m. on Fridays). The various work and study areas (upper floor) are open from 7.30 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Computer rooms

Two rooms containing almost 100 computers are available Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 21:45 and Saturday from 9:00 to 12:00. They are equipped with all the software needed for student work.

The Faculty Restaurant is located on the first floor of the Students' Home.
Lunch is available from Monday to Friday.

Over 25 different sports are offered to Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech students and staff through the ASAG sports association. A complete, varied program at extremely competitive prices: adventure sports, team sports, combat sports, individual sports, outdoor sports, water sports and racket sports.

Research and teaching facilities

At Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech, teaching and research benefit from state-of-the-art infrastructures: Écotron, botanical garden, market gardening areas, urban agriculture platform, rain garden, analysis laboratories and pilot equipment

Culture

Atrium 57, a key player in the cultural life of the town of Gembloux, offers a dynamic program. Students can discover shows, cinema, art exhibitions and a host of associative projects.

Other meetings, activities and events are also available to students in Gembloux and nearby urban centers such as Namur and Brussels.

The Association Générale des étudiants (AG) is the meeting place for all Gembloux students. The AG has a dozen committees, enabling each student to participate in the life of the Association (Improv, Photos, Music, Agruche... La liègeoise, la Hennuyère...).

Within the General Assembly, the CAP brings together landscape architecture students.

Thanks to the voluntary work of its members, the association offers a multitude of activities and services at reduced prices: course notes, scientific books, herbariums, laboratory equipment, etc

The Cercle international des étudiants helps students from all over the world to integrate smoothly.

The Fédé Gembloux coordinates student representation within the Faculty.

Student Social Services

The Student Social Service supports all students throughout the year. A social worker from the service, available part-time on the Gembloux campus, offers support with applications for study allowances, reduced tuition fees, financial aid...
She also provides advice on special situations and can refer students to specialized external services.

In general, ULiège supports its students in their studies in a variety of ways, whether in terms of quality of life, success assistance, well-being or social aspects.

Help for success

At Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech, there's a real sense of solidarity that makes it easier to integrate. Nevertheless, it's difficult to take charge of one's studies and acquire an effective working method. That's why the Faculty provides specific support to ease the transition from secondary to higher education. A pedagogical team offers support tailored to the demands of bioengineering studies.

Within the secretariat of each Faculty or School, the "appariteurs" are the students' main contacts for all administrative questions, particularly those concerning the organization of exams, timetables, certificates of achievement, official transcripts, etc

On the Gembloux campus, the Pedagogical Office is made up of the Pedagogical Coordinator, the Academic Advisor (PAE), Student Affairs (apparitorate), Student Mobility and the timetable managers.
