Faculty of Philosophy & Arts

Decoding our society, placing today's issues in their historical perspective, understanding human beings in their relationship to languages, culture and ways of thinking... that's what you'll learn at the Faculty of Philosophy and Arts.

You'll discover and critically analyze a wide variety of cultural productions: philosophical essays, plays, speeches, novels, films, historical accounts, video games, archaeological remains... You'll build bridges between eras, individuals and cultures. You can also train as a teacher.

Located in the heart of the city of Liège, the Faculty occupies the historic buildings of the Place du Vingt Août, the Media Campus and an area in Outremeuse dedicated to languages. The city will also provide you with a life-size practice room, thanks to the many cultural institutions nearby: cinemas, theaters, opera, museums... Last but not least, the Faculty's border location and numerous opportunities to spend time abroad will be an asset if you want to practice foreign languages and open up to other cultures.

To the programmes

The Faculty of Philosophy and Arts is located in the center of the city of Liège, which is directly served by a vast network of public transport (train, bus and tramway).

Most courses are held at on the 20-Août site, on the Faculty's premises.

For the Bloc 1 bachelor students, most courses are given...,

• Place du 20-Août - A1 building
• Place Cockerill - A2 building
• Quai Roosevelt - A4 building

Some courses are also held at the Complexe Opéra - O2 building, about 10 minutes' walk away.

Special cases :

Translation-Interpretation courses are mostly held in the Pitteurs language center - L5 building

The Master's in Journalism courses are mostly held at the Média Campus Grand Poste - A6 building

In exceptional cases, you may also have to move to the Sart Tilman in the Grands Amphithéâtres (B7a) or the Amphithéâtres de l'Europe (B4) - Agora district.

We recommend that you stay in an area around the 20 Août site (Liège Centre-ville), so that you can easily reach the course venues on foot.

For example, you could opt for :

• The Outremeuse district (home of Liège folklore, on the other side of the Meuse and close to the B3 cultural center)
• Saint Lambert/Hors château (historic heart of the city)
• Liège city centre (close to festivities, culture and shopping)
• Saint-Laurent/Louvrex (lively and close to the city center)

Students generally opt for accommodation with a private landlord in Liège (kot). The number of rooms available in student residences has also increased in recent years.

Around 7,000 student accommodations are available in all parts of the city and around the campuses (kots, rooms, studios, apartments, houses).

There's plenty to choose from, and average prices are still affordable compared to other major university cities.

In addition to the libraries, spaces specially designed for students are available on the downtown campus, including study, relaxation and co-working areas.

The Philo&Arts cafeteria is located on the 20 Août site, on the first floor of the A2 building.

A cafeteria is also located in the Pitteurs language center - L5 building

They offer sandwiches, snacks, hot and cold drinks and various snacks at reasonable prices.

In town, you'll also find plenty of opportunities to eat out at affordable prices, and plenty of pleasant places to spend a convivial moment with students.

There are no specific sports facilities on the Liège Centre-ville campus.

While most ULiège Sports activities are organized at the Blanc Gravier sports center (Sart Tilman), some sports are also offered in Liège city center. These include aerobics, climbing, field hockey...

The Faculty of Philosophy and Letters houses several cultural facilities in the 20-Août building:

In general, ULiège supports its students in their studies in a variety of ways, whether in terms of quality of life, success assistance, well-being or social aspects.

In Philosophy and Arts, the secretariat is the students' first point of contact for various administrative questions concerning course management, certificates of achievement, official transcripts, etc.
