In the 60s, while waiting for the new hospital (today's CHU) to become operational at Sart Tilman, medical students were having great difficulty finding accommodation in the Bavière district. Professor Lucien Brull was concerned about this problem.
A home in the vicinity of the hospital was therefore a necessity.
Architect Charles Vandenhove was entrusted with the design. One hundred rooms for singles, boys and girls, twenty-eight apartments for married students, an apartment for the director, one for the janitor, and communal living areas: meeting rooms, library.
On the first floor, a 200-seat self-service restaurant and a large cafeteria. This was the first restaurant to be managed by the University.
On June 21, 1967, the University inaugurates its second student home (the first being the Ruhl home on bd d'Avroy) and the first restaurant it manages alone.
