The autopsy department at Bavaria Hospital dates back to 1909. It is outdated and poorly adapted to the new requirements of the 1960s. The University, in collaboration with the City, decided to build a new mortuary complex on rue Dos-Fanchon.

Together, Professor Moureau, Professor Louis and architect Charles Vandenhove, with the help of SETU (Service d'Etudes Techniques), designed a department meeting modern standards for teaching, research and forensic expertise.

Laboratories and a darkroom are attached to the autopsy room. Autopsies are carried out in the best possible conditions: operating tables illuminated by scialytics, the possibility of color photography and radiography, microscopic examinations of a fragment of organ in a few moments, on-the-spot study and refrigeration of blood samples, effusions and bacteriological samples.

The funeral room is both serious and stylish.

The janitor's apartment was designed to escape this inevitably impressive atmosphere.

The light-brick structure is sober yet elegant. It exudes a sense of dignity and peace.
