* Building B17b is the cryotechnical test site, comprising a protected area where tests using either oxygen or liquid nitrogen are carried out under real conditions.
The test benches on this site are used to determine the compatibility of materials with oxygen, and to analyze the behavior at very high speeds of moving parts such as the ball bearings and dynamic seals used in space engines. Activity at this site is directly linked to the development of the European ARIANE launcher, as well as to technical problems encountered in industry.
