Hexapoda in a nutshell
For the first time in our country, an area devoted entirely to Insects (or more precisely, Hexapods) is open to the public. This insectarium is a permanent museum structure dedicated to Prof. Em. Jean Leclercq, of Gembloux- Agro-Bio-Tech (ULiège).
Outline of the exhibition
Through some fifty didactic modules, visitors discover the main characteristics of Hexapods: their classification, metamorphoses, adaptations, modes of communication, roles in nature, impact on our lives, threats to their populations, and more.
Several dozenlive insects (including bees in a glass beehive), hundreds of naturalized specimens and numerous photos illustrate and complement these theoretical aspects.
The visit continues with a visit to a 2,000 m² garden specially laid out to attract a multitude of Hexapods.
In the butterfly and native insect greenhouse, visitors will lose their last apprehensions and prejudices about these amazing arthropods.
The insectarium targets a varied public: families (games are provided for the little ones) and students, as well as the curious and entomology enthusiasts.
